Hlanzekile River and Ocean Cleaning is a self-funded South African non-profit organisation on a mission to clean and maintain rivers, through river cleanups, educating communities and waste management.
The challenge
In an era of rapid industrialisation and urbanisation, our rivers and wetlands are facing unprecedented challenges. South Africa's waterways, which are essential for life and biodiversity, are bearing the burden of excessive plastic pollution. This plastic menace not only endangers aquatic life but also disrupts the fragile ecosystems that depend on these water bodies for their existence. Hlanzekile is acutely aware of this pressing call to action and has positioned itself as a steadfast guardian against the degradation of our natural environment.
